Meet the WOODAN Board

Jelte van der Laan

Cambium Botany · Archaeobotanist, Treasurer WOODAN Foundation

Archaeologist and archaeobotanist, founder of Cambium Botany. Jelte investigates the use of wood in the terp regions of the Netherlands and specializes in the study of archaeological wood and plant remains. He is responsible for WOODAN’s finances and contributes expertise on wood identification and archaeological interpretation.

Kristof Haneca
Kristof Haneca

Agentschap Onroerend Erfgoed · Heritage Researcher, Dendrochronologist

Dendrochronologist at the Flemish Heritage Agency. Kristof studies tree rings to date archaeological and historical wood, and has published extensively on timber trade and building history. He brings essential expertise on dating techniques and heritage applications to the WOODAN foundation.

Silke Lange

Archeohout · Archaeobotanist

Wood specialist with BIAX Consult and founder of Archeohout. Silke focuses on the analysis and conservation of wooden artefacts from archaeological contexts in Flanders and beyond. She ensures that the diverse categories of wooden finds are systematically studied and made accessible in WOODAN.

Koen Deforce
Koen Deforce

University of Ghent · Research professor

Researcher at Ghent University, specializing in archaeobotany. Koen coordinates projects that catalogue and analyse wooden artefacts from prehistory to the modern period. His academic perspective strengthens WOODAN’s research base and connects the foundation to the wider archaeological community.

Stephan Nicolaij
Stephan Nicolaij

Qursi Software · Archaeologist, Programmer, Chairman WOODAN Foundation

Software developer and secretary of the WOODAN foundation. Stephan is responsible for the technical development of the WOODAN database and web applications. He ensures that the system is user-friendly, stable and accessible for both specialists and the general public.

Legal & registration

The WOODAN Foundation (“Stichting WOODAN”) holds ANBI charitable status with the Dutch Tax Administration and is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
